FCN Subgroup Forestpedagogy meets in Ljubljana
Place: Ljubljana, Slovenia, 25th – 26th November 2019
F rom 25th – 26th November the Subgroup Forestpedagogy held the annual meeting in Ljubljana, hosted by the Slovenian Forestry Institute. 17 persons from 13 different European states participated.
The main topics of the agenda, were the evaluation of the European Congress of Forest Pedagogs in Latvia in 2019 and the planning of the congress 2020in Luxemburg. The results of the online-evaluation for the congress in Riga underlined, that the participants appreciated especially a high amount of very useful practical examples, new ideas and the professional key notes. Some feedbacks proposed, to use the congress itself more as practical exemplary for a wider range of sustainability topics, also concerning questions of “green” transport, food or garbage.
We can already invite all interested educators to tthe European Congress 2020, which will take place in Remerschen, Luxemburg, from 11th to 14th of May 2020. The topic is „Forests for Human well-being – how Forestpedagogy contributes”. The 1st announcement on this website, included guidelines for abstracts and call for proposals is planned to happen before Christmas this year – Start of the registration will be the 1st of February 2020.
In the meeting the subgroup decided to change the internal working-structure of the working-group from a four headed steering-group to a leading structure with one leader and one deputy leader, supported by a secretary. For the years 2020 until the end of 2022 the Subgroup elected:

Deputy Leader (Deputy Coordinator): Liga Abizare, Latvia
Secretary: Thomas Baschny, Austria
In a frame-program, very well arranged by the Slovenia Forestry Institute, the Subgroup members were able to learn more about the beautiful old-city of Ljubljana and about the city forests of Ljubljana. The management issues of urban park and forest in the middle of Slovenia’s capital was discussed on the field trip with representative of Landscape park Tivoli, Rožnik and Šišenski hrib, also a forest pedagogue. Thanks to parks location near the city centre, the Tivoli Park is an excellent place for a relaxed spending of free time also for parents with small or older children. On the paths of the city forest we saw some interesting possible conflicts between many users.
