T his year, the fourth European Forest Week will take place from 9 to13 October 2017. On this occasion, FOREST EUROPE – Liaison Unit Bratislava prepared a campaign “Bioeconomy and European Forest Week 2017 – a great chance to see the role of our forests in education for sustainable development” to support celebration of European Forest Week 2017.
The main idea of the campaign is to highlight the importance of forests in our everyday life by exploring wide range of products provided by forests, as well as to emphasize a role of bioeconomy as a driver for sustainable development. The target group is broad public, especially young generation at schools, as they represent the future decisions makers.
Activity booklet “Bioeconomy and European Forest Week 2017 – A great chance to see the role of our forests in education for sustainable development” with background information describing bioeconomy and explaining how bioeconomy relates to forestry. Moreover, it contains pedagogical approach to be applied during the campaign as well as three model activities for pupils. These educational materials explore different ways of teaching and learning about bioeconomy. The material uses and explains the principal steps in learning to achieve environmental education for sustainable development and its goal to raise awareness about bioeconomy.
